Now Booking Auditions for Into the Woods
The Brothers Grimm hits the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make.
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favourite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The TONY Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into The Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy.
Wavestage Theatre will be holding open auditions for the Stephen Sondheim Musical “Into The Woods” to be performed July 9 to 12, 2015 at Richmond Hill Centre for Performing Arts. Rehearsals for this production begin May 1st, on Saturdays 3:30 to 9pm and Sundays 1:30 to 8pm. Rehearsals are mandatory.
Audition Requirements
- Performers will each be given 5 minutes for their audition. Please arrive 10 minutes early.
- Please bring a recent headshot and resume to your audition.
- Please prepare one song from the show AND 16 bars of another song (not from Into the Woods) that best shows your abilities and range. Please bring accompaniment tracts on iPod/iPhone or CD. Accompaniment tracts for Into the Woods will be provided.

CINDERELLA: A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. Female, 20-35 yrs old Range: G3 - G5. Please sing ON THE STEPS OF THE PALACE.
CINDERELLA'S MOTHER: Deceased with her soul guarding and aiding her daughter from a tree. Female, 40-55 yrs old Range: E4 - F4. Please sing her solo lines from CINDERELLA AT THE GRAVE.
CINDERELLA'S PRINCE: Vain and gorgeous, he is a disloyal lover who is currently searching for the next new, exciting thing. Male, 27-40 yrs old. Range: B2 - F4. Please sing AGONY.
CINDERELLA'S STEPMOTHER: The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of Cinderella. Female, 30 to 50 yrs old. Range: A3 - F#5.
FLORINDA & LUCINDA: Cinderella's stepsisters who are black of heart. They follow in their mother's footsteps of abusing Cinderella. Female, 15 - 35 yrs old. Range: C4 - Ab5.
JACK: The feckless Giant killer who is 'almost a man.' He is adventurous, naive, energetic, and bright-eyed. Male, 17-30 yrs old Range: B2 - G4. Please sing GIANTS IN THE SKY.
JACK'S MOTHER: Browbeating and weary, Jack's protective mother who is independent, bold, and strong-willed. Female, 50-65 yrs old. Range: Bb3 - Gb5. Please sing solo from PROLOGUE.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD: A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-wited, fearless, yet youthful and naive. Female, 14-20 yrs old. Range: Bb3 - F5. Please sing I KNOW THINGS NOW.
NARRATOR/MYSTERIOUS MAN: A mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler. He is a good-natured protector and observer. Male, 30to 65 yrs old. Range: G2 - Eb4. Please sing NO MORE.
RAPUNZEL: A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world. Female,15 to 30 yrs old. Range: B3 - A5. Please sing OUR LITTLE WORLD.
RAPUNZEL'S PRINCE: Just as vain and gorgeous as his Prince brother, he is always chasing the newest, most exiting endeavor. Male, 25-40 yrs old Range: C#3 - E4 Please sing AGONY.
THE BAKER: A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy and is willing to do anything to ensure her happiness but refuses to let others fight his battles. Male, 25 to 45 yrs old Range: Ab2 - G4. Please sing NO MORE.
THE BAKER'S WIFE: Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple, yet satisfying life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavours. Female, 25-40 yrs old. Range: F3 - G5. Please sing MOMENTS IN THE WOODS.
THE WITCH: Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel who is straightforward and aggressive. Female, 45-55 yrs old. Range: F3 - G5. Please sing LAST MIDNIGHT and PROLOGUE (Rap Sequence).
WOLF: Hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading and captivating his prey. Male, 30-35 yrs old Range: Bb2 - Gb4. Please sing HELLO LITTLE GIRL.
3 LITTLE PIGS: 3 children ages 10 to 13. Dancers and singing ensemble.
