We are thrilled to announce the first production of our 25th Season: GODSPELL (2012 Revival Version)! While the original production has been produced four times by Wavestage over the past 25 years, we are ecstatic to bring it back to life with a fresh sound as heard in the 2012 Broadway Revival - and with some fresh faces!

A Note from the Artistic Director: Wavestage is honoured to have been given the license to perform the revival version of Godspell. Godspell is best experienced by the audience when they feel involved, even understood. The George Ignatieff Theatre is the perfect intimate space for us to bring this show back to Toronto - where it all started!

TORONTO AUDITION DATES:
November 27 & 28

Video auditions will also be accepted until November 27. Please scroll down for audition requirements.

Director: Sarah Langford

About the Show & Its Toronto Roots!

An explosive hit on Broadway and around the world, Godspell tells the familiar stories of Jesus and his apostles in clever, unexpected, and often hilarious ways. Originally written in 1970, this timeless show has been updated and exuberantly brought into the 21st century by original composer Stephen Schwartz, the brilliant mind behind the international blockbuster Wicked. A modern and sometimes comedic retelling of the Biblical parables and the last seven days of Christ’s life. One of the most successful musicals in history, it is a joyous, contemporary retelling of the Gospel according to St. Matthew in music, mime, and comedy which is sometimes comedic and at times sentimental. The list of recognizable songs is long, and includes “Save the People”, “Turn Back, O Man”, and “Day by Day”. The original Toronto production of Godspell opened at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in 1972, with an expectation of running for just a few dozen performances. It was a massive hit as well, closing more than a year later after 488 performances. That production is legendary for the budding young talent in the show—including Victor Garber (Alias, Titanic) as Jesus as well as future comedy stars Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, Dave Thomas, and Martin Short.
