22nd Season Announcement & Audition Info
We are thrilled to be announcing the lineup of musical productions that will fill our 22nd Season! This season we will be presenting three Main Stage adult company productions from May 2016 - April 2017.
Our summer stock production at Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is RAGTIME (July 14-17, 2016). We are excited to be rehearsing this production at a TTC-accessible location in York Mills TORONTO. Ragtime is an epic musical that paints a nostalgic and powerful portrait of life in turn of the century America. Three distinct stories intertwine to poignantly illustrate families coping with rapid changes of the early 20th Century. History's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate are the underpinnings of intimate interactions among Anglo-American, African-American, and European immigrants.
In the fall at Newmarket Theatre, our second production is the popular fairytale hit, SHREK, The Musical (November 17-20, 2016)! Based on the 2001 DreamWorks film, Shrek The Musical is the heartwarmingly-upended fairy tale featuring a crusty but loveable ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his swamp. Together with a wise-cracking donkey, a defiant princess, a vertically challenged bad guy and a gang of storybook misfits, this unlikely hero discovers that real friendship and true love are not only found in fairy tales.
"Is there a moment quite as keen or a memory as bright as light and fire and music sweet to warm the winter's night?" On February 11, 2017 at Newmarket Theatre, we will present a Midwinter Celtic Night! An evening of song from the Wavestage Choir. Traveling through Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, and England, where Yul, Hogmagog, and the Winter Solstice have uniquely interlaced over time; each finding its own way to stand on the edge of nature while she sleeps.
You'll "get a kick" out of our final production of the season: ANYTHING GOES (April 20-23, 2017) at Newmarket Theatre. In this toe-tapping adventure on the high seas, etiquette and convention get tossed out of the porthole as two unlikely couples navigate their way to love … proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise, and some good old-fashioned blackmail!
Stay tuned for a curriculum announcement and registration opening for our Youth Programs.
